In 2007 I traveled back to Bangkok to teach a seminar on Document
Processing.
I worked with a new group of PhD students that we are helping to get
started at Siam University. I also had a chanace to see a half dozen of
my former PhD students.
Here are Bordin Samsomboon, Asadaporn Nuchaparoon, his wife, and
Vichita Vathanophas(right).
In 2004, my son Pat and I took a trip down to the Bahamas
to get our scuba certification. We had a great time at an all-inclusive resort.
The scuba instructor was from New Zealand and made the whole process
a delight. Pat had some ear problems, and wasn't able to finish the last
certification dive, but the food, drink, sports and weather were
all we could have asked for.
A 2004 trip to Bangkok to deliver a seminar on Knowledge Management gave me an
opportunity to team up with my old friend Jim Williams and a chance to see
one of my former PhD students -- Vichita Vathanophas and her mom Kanda.
Of course, I can't
be in Bangkok and not have a photo of a tailboat!
An old friend called in August of 2004 and asked if I would deliver
a course on site and remotely in Macedonia. Two trips and 15 lectures
later -- half by remote link -- left me tired but happy to have made new
friends in Skopje, Macedonia. While I was there, I had a chance to walk
a 700 year old bridge that was being restored.
Recent trips back to Norway -- it now seems to be once or twice a year --
have provided some spectacular sunsets and vistas. This is the view down
from trollstein which is quite sectacular. This sunset isn't the best,
but it is the only one I am in!
In 2003, I had an opportunity to go to Madiera, an island 700 miles
south west of Portugal game me
an opportunity to deliver a paper and see some beautiful countryside.
I also brought back some great wine and some beautiful linen. Finally,
a screw up with the flights allowed some time to explore Lisbon for
eight hours on the way back.
It is not common to include hotel rooms in these shots,
but the Prime Minister's Suite at the Rica in Molde was a pleasant
surprise on a trip when I lost
my luggage both coming and going among other surprises! Note that the hotel
is shaped like a sailboat jutting out in the fijord.
