Certificate of Advanced Study - Preservation Management
Students enrolled in the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) Program are
interested in increasing their knowledge about preservation through a structured
program of individualized study beyond the MLIS degree. The CAS/LIS program
is a terminal program leading to a certificate rather than a degree. It
is undertaken by MLIS graduates intending to pursue library or archival
preservation as a full-time career option.
CAS/LIS Admission Requirements
For admission to the CAS/LIS program, applicants shall meet the following
criteria:

possession of a master's degree from a program accredited by the American
Library Association, with a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0) scale,
or equivalent qualification;

three letters of recommendation that attest to the applicant's aptitude
and motivation to pursue professional studies at a level beyond the master's
degree;

choice of an advisor who agrees to direct student's work in the program.
CAS/LIS Program Requirements
To receive the CAS/LIS the student shall complete a total of 24 credits
of course work acceptable to the advisor and completed with the grade of
B or above within a period of four calendar years from time of registration.
The following courses must be taken to fulfill the requirements for
the CAS/LIS in Preservation Management. With the permission of the advisor,
some courses may be substituted with courses from the optional list.
