CONSTITUTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ORGANIZATION

ARTICLE I NAME
The name of this organization shall be the International Students Organization, hereafter referred to as ISO.
ARTICLE II PREAMBLE
The purpose of ISO is to represent SLIS international students in the university of community: to further the social and career interests of its members; to provide a formal channel of communication among international students, and also between them and the American students, in addition to the faculty and the administration of SLIS and the university at large; to deal with cultural, educational, and professional problems peculiar to international students; and to develop opportunities for professional growth by fostering contacts with local, regional, and professional organizations.
ARTCLE III OFFICERS
There shall be three elected officers of ISO: a president,
a vice-president, and a secretary/treasurer.
The president shall:
Coordinate all activities of ISO.
Create special committees as the occasion require.
Call and preside over all meetings of ISO.
Meet with the Dean and faculty on a periodic basis.
Serve as official liaison between faculty and ISO.
Serve as SLIS committees as ISO representative.
Delegate any of the above mentioned duties, in total or in parts, to either
of the elected two officers, as deemed appropriate.
In the absence of the president, the vice president will assume the duties
of the president.
The secretary/treasurer shall:
Be responsible for taking minutes for meetings and for distributing them to
all concerned parties one week before the next meeting.
Control and disburse all funds of ISO, as the president shall direct.
ARTICLE IV ELECTION OF THE OFFICERS
All SLIS international students are eligible to run for any
office.
All annual meeting will be held during September of each year for two major
purposed:
President nominations.
Elect officers among nominees.
Students are encouraged to slate their wish to run for office during annual
election meeting.
The election shall be by secret ballot during or after annual meeting.
All registered SLIS international students are eligible to vote.
Interested students can be nominated for only one office or officers shall
be elected by a simple majority of these voting.
ARTCILE V TERMS OF OFFICERS
Each officer shall server as an official representative of
ISO for at least the following winter term after his or her election.
All officers should not be elected for the same office for more than one year.
An officer of ISO may be removed from office by a formal petition of 2/3 of
the membership.
ARTCILE VI MEMBERSHIP
Only registered SLIS international students, full and part-time, enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh are members of ISO. There shall be not discrimination or hazing as a condition of membership. During orientation of new students, ISO officers will encourage participation in ISO activities.
ARTICLE VII MEETINGS
ISO will hold meetings at least once a month, during the academic
year.
A quorum shall consist of at least three members, not including the president.
Special meetings shall be called by any of the officers and require seven
days notice.
Unless otherwise specified herein, procedures for all meeting of ISO shall
be informal. When necessary, Roberts Rules of Order shall govern the
meeting.
ARTCILE VIII FINANCES
The ISO budget is allocated from the Universitys student fees. No monies shall be spent without approval of all officers. President will be responsible for fiscal concerns.
ARTICLE IX ADVISOR
ISO shall have a faculty advisor / co-advisors available to officers on an advisory basis.
ARTCILE X PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Any program or service offered by ISO shall be approved by a 2/3 majority vote of the members attending the meeting at which such activities are proposed.
ARTCILE XI PUBLICATIONS
All ISO publications shall comply with the university publication code. All publications shall be formally approved by ISO officers.
ARTCILE XII AMENDMENTS
Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by any member of ISO. All proposed amendments shall be clearly posted for at least one week prior to voting. Amendments must be approved by 2/3 of those members present at a general meeting.
