Fred Rogers is celebrating 30 years on the Public Broadcasting System, His show "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" may have even got you through your terrible twos to your confused twenties, bewildered thirties, frenetic forties, and oh my goodness how did I get to be 50 and beyondies.
He has given strength and assurance to young people who are growing up in a world ruled by the chaos theory. Isn't it time we passed some of those good feelings on to others?
Until February 19th, the day he celebrates those 30 wonderful years, the ALA Student Chapter will be collecting sweaters to be given to the Neighborhood as part of the WQED Mr. Rogers' Sweater Drive. All sweaters will be distributed to those people, young and old, who could benefit from a little added warmth in their lives.
Don't be a Beavis or Butthead. Drop your sweater off in the egg box in front of 627 or in the boxes outside Ellen Detlefsen's office on the 6th floor. You won't get salmonella as we practice safe delivery. Everyone who participates gets a chance at a Mr. Rogers keepsake, T-shirt, or whatever else the ALA budget will allow me. Categories include: Most sweaters donated, random drawing, and sweater that I deem the hardest to have been donated--a subjective category, but that's life isn't it.
I hope this humor has brought a little warmth to your being, now let's pass it on! Thank you!
