The "Bibliofile" is a bi-weekly publication available in either print or online at the above URL. The online version started last semester and is updated the same day as the print version is made available.
Why read the "Bibliofile?" This publication is aimed at the needs and interests of graduate students in Library and Information Sciences and is also available as a forum for students to submit articles of interest involving both academics and (yes, believe it or not) life outside S.I.S.
One of the main goals of the "Bibliofile" is to work as a communication conduit for scholarship, field placement/internship, and employment news. Jobs are regularly posted on the bulletin board on the 6th floor and in notebooks located in the S.I.S. library, but it is also convenient to have a print or online version indicating especially tantalizing opportunities.
The "Bibliofile" also likes to profile a student or faculty member in each edition. Last term, Dr. Ellen Detlefsen, Barbara Rockenback (now graduated), Jonathan Estrin, and Diane Hanville (also now graduated), were all profiled because of their work and interesting personal pursuits. A new class brings a whole new reservoir of talents and interests.
The "Bibliofile" is also looking for people to submit restaurant and entertainment reviews. Be sure to get out of the S.I.S. building and explore what Pittsburgh has to offer and help keep a healthy mental balance. Suggestions are available on the "What's Happening" page of the "Bibliofile." Your student I.D. is a great way to get a discount at most programs offered through the Carnegie Music Hall and Museums. Questions? Comments? Submissions? Contact Joan Soulliere, and I'll be happy to talk with you. Articles may be electronically submitted to my email account.
