Infinity
Infinity is a forum for students with an interest
in preservation. Preservation concerns itself with prolonging
accessibility to library and archival materials for
as long as they are needed. Management of these cultural
assets includes: environmental considerations, coping
with natural disasters, and care, handling, and storage
of various formats. Infinity's hands-on activities,
such as field-trips, demonstrations, and guest lectures,
provide valuable opportunities for professional networking
and community outreach.

International Student Organization
(ISO)
The International
Students Organization (ISO) is comprised of students
from around the world. They serve as a support group
for newly arrived international students assisting
them with housing information, acquainting them with
the American culture, and giving tours of the campus
and the Oakland area. Each year the group holds an
International Food Festival for the SIS community which
features the cuisine from the students' home countries
and their traditional dress. Last year ISO sponsored
a sight-seeing trip to Fallingwater, a local home designed
by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Special
Libraries Association, Pittsburgh Student Group
The student
chapter of Special Libraries Association (SLA) was
formally reactivated in the Summer of 2006. SLA student
group explores non-traditional avenues of librarianship.
We seek to open avenues to special libraries including
but not limited to, corporate, law, medical, health,
art and museum libraries. In an effort to maintain
an understanding of the services provided within
these libraries, SLA tours library facilities, requests
professional speakers from libraries, and more. SLA
student chapter provides support, networking and
leadership opportunities. We offer resources for
careers, help with developing student resumes, cover
letters, and curricula vitae.
Furthermore, our link with the local
SLA professional Pittsburgh chapter affords the MLIS students
the opportunity to meet with and gain practical hands-on
experience with librarians in specialized areas. These
librarians act as mentors, offering encouragement, notifying
students of currently available openings within the field.
In addition, SLA professional local chapter regularly hosts
monthly dinner meetings which include a speaker of interest
in the library profession.
Most importantly, being an active
member of SLA student group and/or the SLA professional local
chapter shows a dedication and commitment to the library
profession as a whole.

Student Chapter of the American
Library Association (SCALA)
The student
chapter of the American Library Association is
one of 15 student chapters affiliated with the American
Library Association, the largest professional library
association in the world. The chapter meets once or
twice a term, and has no dues! ALA student chapters
have the right to elect one representative to work
at the annual meeting, which earns that student's room
and board. Active membership gives students a great
chance to begin a lifetime professional association.
