Chancellor John Bowman is the visionary of the Cathedral of Learning.  In an effort to complete this enormous project both in scale and budget, Bowman embarked on a campaign for support within the community.  Pittsburghers of all ages participated in a fundraising effort to construct the building.  In fact, more than 97,000 area schoolchildren each donated a dime to buy a brick for the Cathedral.  Today this sky-high wonder stands as a tribute to Chancellor Bowman’s vision and to those who graciously contributed to create this campus landmark.
