Digital Library Support of Teaching and Learning.
Libraries have been at the heart of educational
institutions for centuries. Today, digital libraries provide
essential support for teaching and learning. Students,
whether at home, work, or in a distance-learning situation,
gain access to educational resources, publications, and
other scholarly resources. They also learn by doing, and
share their creations, including reports, theses and dissertations.
Teachers share courseware,
including demonstrations, simulations, datasets, lecture
notes, exercises, and test sets.
In this discussion we reflect on lessons learned as we
report on efforts in this arena:
- Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations
(www.ndltd.org)
- Computing and Information Technology Interactive Digital
Educational Library (www.citidel.org), part of the
- National STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics) education Digital Library (www.nsdl.nsf.gov),
and which also relates to the
- Computer Science Teaching Center (www.cstc.org) and
the
- ACM Journal of Educational Resources in Computing
(JERIC)
