Description of Curriculum

At the M.S. degree level the WIS track consists of a set of wireless courses as part of the normal 36 credit M.S. Telecommunications degree requirements.  The courses aim to equip students with the skills required for understanding current systems and future advances in the area.

The WIS track courses consist of:

(1) TELCOM 2710: Foundations of Wireless Communications <Link to Most Recent Offering>

(3) TELCOM 2721: Mobile Data Networks <Link to Most Recent Offering>

(4) TELCOM 2725: Code Division Multiple Access <Link to Most Recent Offering>

(5) TELCOM 2936: Special Topics in Wireless Communications <Link to Most Recent Offering>

The foundations course introduces the student to digital communications, radio propagation and antennas.  The cellular telephony and personal communication systems (PCS) course together with the mobile data networks course provide the concepts and details of existing and emerging wireless voice and data technology. Advanced topics such as WLANs and sensor networks, code division multiple access (CDMA), modulation and coding, propagation modeling, mobile computing, wireless protocol development, wireless regulatory issues, etc. are discussed in the other courses.
