What is SAA?

SAA stands for Society of American Archivists, a professional organization dedicated to the advancement of archival theory and practice in the United States. Founded in 1934, SAA is considered to be one of the premier professional organizations in the archives field. The student chapter of SAA at the University of Pittsburgh was established in 1993, making it the first in the nation.

June 17th (Rescheduled Date) -- 5:30-6:30 Potluck & Discussion with Corporate Records Manager, Christian Savine.

Join the Student Chapter in the first floor conference room at SIS for a potluck and informal discussion with Christian Savine. Savine, a graduate of the Archives Program who is currently serving as the Senior Records Analyst at NOVA Chemicals, will join us and provide insight into the real world of corporate records and archives. Please feel free to bring a dish to share.

NOVA Chemicals is a producer of petrochemicals and plastics, with operating centers in Pittsburgh and Calgary, ALberta. Its corporate roots date to the 1950's and lie in The Alberta Gas Trunk Line Company Limited, responsible for gathering and transporting nearly all Alberta gas shipped out of the provinence, and Polymer Corporation, which began by supplying synthetic rubber to the Allied war effort. Student Chapter Tour of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History

Dr. Callery talks to students

Museum Archivist Bernadette Callery guided the student chapter on a behind the scenes tour of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Friday June 4th.  Dr. Callery presented several examples of museum recordkeeping systems and arranged for the students to meet with the Botany and Invertebrate Paleontology Collection Managers.
