What is SAASC?

SAASC is the University of Pittsburgh's Society of American Archivists Student Chapter - one of the first two student chapters in the nation. The Society of American Archivists (SAA) is a professional organization dedicated to the advancement of archival theory and practice in the United States. Founded in 1936, SAA is considered one of the premier professional organizations in the archives field. SAA introduced Student Chapters as a new formal structure within the Society during the January 1993 SAA Council Meeting in Chicago. Student organizations at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Michigan were recognized as co-Alpha Chapters. Since then, the chapter has served as a means of introducing and integrating new archivists into the profession, enhancing the educational function of a graduate education in archival studies by providing a forum for the discussion of archival issues and engaging students in professional activities.
